Living Well in Christ - Our Origin Story
Nov 02, 2026
Equipping people to flourish in their calling, so that others may flourish through their service.
Where it began: a calling to equip others
Every story has a beginning. Ours began with a simple but profound conviction: when people are equipped to serve well, lives can be transformed.
Across our churches and communities, there are people who give generously of themselves. Volunteers, ministry leaders, church staff and those who walk alongside people experiencing vulnerability often bring extraordinary commitment, compassion and faithfulness to their work.
Yet good intentions alone are not always enough. Serving others can be demanding. Leadership can feel lonely. Difficult situations can challenge our confidence, and the desire to make a difference can sometimes leave us feeling depleted rather than renewed.
What might happen if we invested more intentionally in the people who serve?
What if they had the opportunity to grow in self-awareness, develop their gifts, deepen their faith and discover new confidence in their calling? What if they were equipped not simply to do more, but to serve with greater wisdom, competence and joy?
These questions lie at the heart of Living Well and it all began with a clear message from God to share the living water, that He has so generously given us, with people who were seeking to serve others.
For over twenty years, we had been running a coach training company that supported many public sector organisations to grow and develop internal coaches. These were organisations set up to serve people in different ways – like NHS, Scottish Government, Universities and third sector organisations.
At a Bible study group in April 2023, someone shared a picture with Michele she said had come to her during the prayer time. The picture was of a well that was overflowing with streams of living water. “I feel God wanted me to share this with you”, she said, “so that you might share it with others… the living water that is”.
This was a turning point. From this moment, it was clear that the gifts and talents God had given us to build a successful company serving others, was about to open up a new path that God had created in advance for us to walk. (Our next blog post contains a personal testimony from Michele about how this fits with the bigger picture).
Living Well was a seed that grew quickly, drawing other Christians with a heart for coaching and serving together. In November 2025, Living Well in Christ was established as a charity (official name: Living Well Christian Leadership) and our journey to equip God’s people began in earnest.
A vision rooted in Scripture
Our inspiration comes from Ephesians 4:12, which compels us “to equip his people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (NIV).
We believe that equipping people for service is not an optional extra. It is part of how the Church grows, matures and fulfils its calling.
Each person brings unique gifts, experiences and potential. When these are recognised, nurtured and put into practice, something wonderful happens: individuals grow, relationships strengthen, teams become more effective, and communities have greater capacity to care for those who need support.
For us, Christian coaching and training offer powerful ways to make this vision a reality, holding space for people to pause, reflect, listen deeply, explore possibilities and discern how God might be inviting them to grow and respond.
This is not about telling people what to do or giving them all the answers. It is about creating the conditions in which people can discover their own God-given potential, make wise choices and take meaningful steps forward.
At the centre is a belief that when we grow in our understanding of who we are in Christ, we can become more confident and wholehearted in how we serve others.
From a personal calling to a shared vision
Living Well grew from a deepening sense of calling: a desire to use the gifts, experience and learning developed over many years to serve God's people in a different way.
It became increasingly clear that this was about more than providing individual coaching or delivering training courses. It was about helping to build a culture in which people are equipped, supported and encouraged to flourish in their service.
A culture where compassion and competence belong together.
Where faith informs practice, without losing sight of the individual.
Where people are supported to recognise their strengths, navigate challenges, develop healthy relationships and discover fresh possibilities.
And where the benefits extend beyond the individual to the teams, churches and communities they serve.
Living Well is the expression of that vision: a way of bringing together Christian faith, coaching expertise and a commitment to developing people for meaningful service.
We know that those who serve others need opportunities to be supported themselves. We want to help create those opportunities.
What does it mean to live well in Christ?
For us, living well is not about having a perfect life, getting everything right or being able to meet every demand placed upon us.
It is about discovering the freedom to become more fully the person God has created us to be, and to live out our calling with purpose, wisdom and compassion.
It means making space to listen: to ourselves, to one another and to God.
And it means understanding that we do not have to serve from a place of constant striving. We can grow, learn, receive support and flourish as we help others to flourish.
This is the kind of growth we long to see in the people, teams and communities we work alongside.
Turning vision into action
Living Well exists to equip God's people for works of service through high-quality Christian coaching, training and development.
We want to help volunteers, leaders and staff teams develop the skills, self-awareness and confidence they need to serve effectively, particularly alongside people and communities experiencing vulnerability.
Our approach brings together the richness of Christian faith with thoughtful, ethical and professional practice. We value the individual, recognise the importance of relationships and create space for reflection, learning and transformation.
Through our courses, coaching and opportunities to learn together, we want to help people move beyond simply coping with the demands of service towards a more sustainable, purposeful and life-giving way of serving.
And we know that this vision cannot be realised alone.
It takes people who are willing to learn, churches that invest in their people, partners who share the vision, and a community that believes those who serve others deserve to be equipped and supported.
Living Well is being built with that shared commitment in mind.
An invitation to be part of the story
We see Living Well not as a finished destination, but as the beginning of something we hope will grow and bear fruit in many different places.
Perhaps you are a volunteer who wants to grow in confidence. Perhaps you lead a team and want to help your people flourish. Perhaps you are part of a church that wants to invest more intentionally in those who serve. Or perhaps you simply share our conviction that equipping people is an investment in the wellbeing of our churches and communities.
Wherever you find yourself, we would love you to join us.
Above all, we want to see you flourish in the life and purpose God has for you, so that others may experience the benefits of your gifts, their service and their care.
You can be part of this story through learning, partnership, prayer, participation or financial support. Every contribution helps us develop the vision and extend its reach.
Living Well is about equipping people to flourish so that, by serving one another, the body of Christ will be built up.
This is where our story begins – with an invitation to you to be part of it.
Together, we look forward to discovering how the living water will nourish us.
